This was part of a panel at the Costume Society of America National Symposium in Baltimore, MD in May 2014 – “Sharing our Collections Online: Why and How.” From the abstract:
“Arden Kirkland will discuss digital projects for the Vassar College Costume Collection at http://vcomeka.com/vccc, involving digital exhibitions, a searchable database, and a blog. Detailed information and images of artifacts are included, with interior construction views, oral histories, videos, and 3D views that the user can rotate and zoom. Also included are contextual materials such as photographs, letters, magazine articles, and illustrations. This work has carefully considered existing standards while developing a cataloging Costume Core that allows digital tools to help collections from different institutions ‘talk’ to each other.”
